Research

According to Global Media Insight, the United Arab Emirates is home to 9.54 million citizens, with 72 percent male and 28 percent female citizens, creating a significant gender ratio imbalance.
Moreover, the most prominent age category is 24-54 years old, representing 65 percent of the population, and generating a median age of 33.5 years old. The third largest age group category is 15-24 years old, representing 12 percent of the population, and is the age group that is relevant to our study.
Therefore, the subjects of our study add up to 12 percent of the UAE’s population.

The expat population in the UAE is 8.447 million, making up 88.52 percent of the population (Global Media Insight, 2018), which plays a significant role in exploring mental health in the nation. This could be a main factor contributing to mental health disorders, and therefore, it is worth exploring. This information can be directly linked to multiculturalism, which is discussed later on as a prospective factor contributing to mental health disorders in the UAE.
