Strategic Focus and Plan

Mission and Vision

The Media Impact debate’s mission in Summer 1 (2018/2019) is to exchange ideas and spread awareness about mental health disorders in the youth in the United Arab Emirates.
So, we chose to open this debate not only to the CUD community, but also to external students, professors and experts in mental health disorders in the country.

Our vision is to build a community, starting from Canadian University Dubai, which will support and encourage those that are facing mental disorders to seek for help, and to do this, we want to inform the audience that mental health is a serious issue which can be a consequence of different factors. Therefore, we want to analyze the media impact on mental health and whether it affects it in a positive or negative way.

Goals

The goals of CUD - MCM220 debate (Summer 1 2018/2019) Mental Health Campaign are:

Non-financial goals:

  • To encourages those that are facing mental disorders to seek for help byspreading awareness about mental health disorders.

  • To analyze whether and to what extent mental health is affected by digital mass communication tools.

  • To show people the right way of using social media platforms to avoid negative effects on mental health.

Core Competency and Sustainable Competitive Advantage

The Media Impact (MCM – 220) competitive advantage is that it is the first and only activity organized entirely by students within the university.
The class is made up by talented students from different majors, including journalism, public relations and advertising who work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team and critically analyze the selected topic according to their knowledge gained through the Media Impact course.

The MCM – 220 students plan campaigns to discuss and share opinions about different issues, such as the relationship between mental health disorders and social media in the Summer 2019. Moreover, these debates are open to everyone (internal members of CUD and externals) in order to spread awareness among individuals in the United Arab Emirates.
